The Surroundings

The eco-farm (www.brodowin.de), which is only 2 kms away in the village of Brodowin, is well worth a visit. Here you can witness the everyday workings of an eco-friendly agricultural business. The farm stall offers a wide range of eco-friendly products – from cheese to shampoo. You can find larger shops and supermarkets in Eberswalde and Angermünde which are about 15-20 minutes away by car.

At the Parsteinsee you have the opportunity to go fishing. Permits are available through Fischerei Parsteinsee, Jerzy Przemus, Parsteinwerder 1, 16230 Serwest. Tel./Fax: 033364 - 7 00 30. Horse-drawn cart rides, horse riding and bicycle rental as well as boat rides and canoeing can all be organised on location.

Other worthwhile day trips into the surrounding area are to "the best little zoo in Germany" in Eberswalde (http://www.zoo.eberswalde.de), the famous boat lift Niederfinow (http://www.schiffshebewerk-niederfinow.info) and the age old Cistercian monastery Chorin. In the summer months it plays host to a demanding classical music festival (http://www.kloster-chorin.org). The historic town of Angermünde, various manor houses and castles with parks as well as churches, museums, galleries and art studios provide a nice alternative. If you are looking for tranquility the Barnim country side offers the purest experience of nature: hikers, cyclists, “Wasserwanderer” have the opportunity to witness a unique flora and fauna. The white stork still breeds in almost every village, including Brodowin!
